Thankfully the rain decided to go away for a few weeks so we could get some of our important matches underway. Two rounds of the Men’s Club Championship have been completed with the final two rounds scheduled for play on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st of this month. The leading 8 players in each grade will be seeded for play at the end of the field. The final round will be played on the reverse course so play will finish on the 9th. Also completed this month was the 2025 Men' Foursome Championships. Twenty four competing teams took to the field for the 27 hole event.

Over the past 10 to 15 years there have been a number of changes on the course. For example, there are new hazards, Trees growing and others falling, changes to the bunkers, new improved tee boxes, improvements made to the fairways, new pathways and a new green on the 17th.  All these changes affect how the course plays. However, whilst all these changes to the course have occurred, the index for the holes has not changed. Therefore, the Match Committee has taken on the task of examining  the course index to assess its relevance to the current course playing conditions. This task requires that we collect data to determine a current order of difficulty for the holes. To ensure that we cover a wide range of playing conditions we have collected data of matches played for a full 12 month period. Collected data covers periods of dry and wet weather, windy and still days, hot and cold days, and of course, all seasons. We downloaded data from 8016 rounds of golf played from the Blue tees and 8073 rounds of golf played from the Black tees in the period from the 1st September 2024 to the 31st August 2025. The data is also divided into handicap groupings so that when the indexing is complete it will reflect the difficulty (or ease) experienced by all players of different skill levels on the course. A quick overview of the data shows that whilst there are no dramatic changes indicated, some changes will be made. Hopefully the revised index will be completed and in place by the end of the year.

Please note, due to course renovations commencing on 29th September, October’s Monthly Medal will be played on the 27th September. The match for the 4th October will be a Two Player Ambrose.
