I will start this report with a summary of an incident that occurred a few weeks ago. A visitor playing in a club competition hit his drive wide on the 17th fairway. He couldn’t find it but observed a ball sitting in someone’s backyard. His playing partners advised him it was not his ball as it was a different brand to the one he was playing. Regardless, he opened a gate and entered private property neighbouring the course to pick up a golf ball. His playing partners advised him again that the ball he was going to pick up was not his ball and he was also advised by his playing partners and a neighbour to the property that he was trespassing and to leave the property. He disregarded these warnings and collected the ball. The ball actually belonged to a young boy who lived there.  In effect, the player trespassed and committed a theft. This is considered to be a serious breach of player conduct and the matter was dealt with accordingly.

The club works hard to maintain good relations with owners of properties neighbouring the course and incidents like this can endanger these relationships.  Note that the person concerned was not a member of SGBGC and was a visitor to our course. I am confident that our club members would not do what he did and would always show due respect for the privacy and property of our golf course neighbours.

There has been some discussion on Facebook regarding the adoption of Myscore. Please note that the Men’s Golf Committee has been evaluating options to upgrade our system. We are waiting for a promised new system from Thymesoft due early April. This new system should be able to offer similar features as Myscore and as I understand it, will not cost the club or players money to adopt it.

Now on to the result of our pennant teams. Our A and B Pennant teams have had a few tough matches. The A Pennant team has a hard fought draw last weekend and may still be in the running for the semis. B Pennants went down to a tough Grange team last weekend and are now out of the race for the semis. The White Horse Cup team are still in the fight and is up there with the leaders.

Exciting news is that St Georges Basin Men’s Golf offered and won the right to host all the Pennant semi-finals on the 6th April. There will be a number of very skilled golfers playing and It will be well worth while to come along and watch.

Cheers and happy golfing.
